Dove, Rashida Jones Urge Women: ‘Make Friends with Your Hair’

In a bid to help women come to terms with their dry, unpredictable hair, Dove Hair Care, a brand of Englewood Cliffs, N.J.-based Unilever North America, has joined forces with actress Rashida Jones (“Parks and Recreation”) on the “Make Friends with Your Hair” campaign, which asks women to share their most unpredictable hair stories. Three women will be chosen to have their hair transformed by Dove celebrity stylist Mark Townsend, with one appearing in a national Dove Hair TV ad.

Jones’ knowledge of hard-to-control hair is firsthand. “When I’m on the set or just on the go, like most women, I have dealt with the frustration of dry, rough and frizzy hair that seems impossible to manage,” she noted. “But by sharing our experiences, women can learn from one another and find simple ways to take control of their tricky hair issues.”

“Make Friends with Your Hair” showcases the new Dove Nourishing Oil Care collection, which tames dry, rough and frizzy hair, enabling women to have soft, smooth and shiny hair every day.

Through Oct. 20, Women can tell their own stories by creating a video up to 90 seconds in which relate a “hair-raising” experience in words, act out a humorous scene or even sing an original song. Three finalists, revealed on Nov. 9, will win a VIP trip to New York, where they’ll receive hair makeovers by Townsend. Fans will then have the opportunity on Nov. 28 to vote on DoveHair.com/friends and Facebook.com/Dove  for their favorite finalist to star in the TV ad, who’ll be notified in mid-December.

“Dove Hair is the expert in dry, damaged hair and understands the different kinds of hair issues women face every day,” said David Rubin, Dove Hair Care marketing director. “Dove Hair is committed to helping women have beautiful hair.”
