Ex-Colgate Exec Norm Loringer Gets GMDC Lifetime Achievement Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Retail nonfoods and pharmacy trade association General Merchandise Distributors Council recognized Norm Loringer, retired from Colgate-Palmolive, with its Lifetime Achievement Award for 2005.

A graduate of the University of San Francisco, Loringer had a 36-year career with Colgate that began in the HBC manufacturer's sales department. He was one of the company's first key account managers -- at the time a new sales management position at Colgate -- calling on Lucky and Safeway.

During his time at Colgate, Loringer espoused the concept of channel development and became the company's first channel manager. In 1993 he took over Colgate's trade development function as director of business development, a position he held until his retirement in 2004.

Loringer has been an active supporter of GMDC, serving on both the HBC Advisory Board and the Educational Foundation Board.

"Norm has the unique ability to represent Colgate, but at the same time, take that Colgate hat off when it's necessary, to represent the industry," said David T. McConnell, Jr., GMDC's president and c.e.o.

"He's a unique leader," added Roy White, GMDC v.p. of education. "Because of his unique ability to bring people together, Norm has been a catalyst for getting great things done at GMDC."

Loringer is the 13th recipient of the prestigious award since its inception in 1995. Loringer is presently an industry consultant working from his and wife Marlene's home in Scottsdale, AZ.
