Giant Eagle to Enhance Supply Chain with Replenishment Solution

PITTSBURGH -- Regional independent Giant Eagle plans an addition to its supply chain systems aimed at improving product, merchandising, and replenishment management operations across its 138 corporate and 81 independently owned and operated stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Maryland.

Installation of the system -- called G.O.L.D., from Atlanta-based Aldata Solution, Inc., a global provider of integrated merchandise management and supply chain solutions for high-volume retailers -- is slated for completion by the second quarter of 2006.

"The comprehensive and rich functional coverage of G.O.L.D. in tandem with Aldata's deep understanding of our needs in the very competitive daily goods sector were major deciding factors," said Russell G. Ross, c.i.o. of Giant Eagle. "It's critical for Giant Eagle that our software supplier understands our business environment, our challenges, and our strategy for our success today and for our future growth."

According to Aldata, the system will create a centralized database for all of Giant Eagle's item-related data and associated information. Using this database, it will provide Giant Eagle greater flexibility in managing this information for tasks such as product assortment, pricing, and promotions, and purchasing. Ultimately Giant Eagle expects the system to provide it with the data it needs to make faster and more accurate decisions and to help the retailer achieve improved inventory control and store replenishment optimization.
