GMA Hires New Director for State Legislature and Regulatory Initiatives

WASHINGTON -- The Grocery Manufacturers Association said yesterday that Caroline Silveira would join its staff as the trade group's new director of state affairs for the western region of the United States. Based in Sacramento, Silveira will start May 8.

Silveira most recently served as the legislative director for California State Sen. Jeff Denham, the current chair of the California Senate Agriculture Committee. Before that, Silveira worked for several members of the California Assembly in various positions, including capitol director for Assemblyman George A. Plescia.

"With eight years of experience in the California legislature, Caroline will bring a unique professional perspective to GMA's state legislative and regulatory initiatives," said GMA v.p. of government affairs Steve Arthur. "Considering her recent experience with the California Senate Agriculture Committee, we are confident that she will be able to help us advance a variety of our member companies' interests effectively."

GMA represents the world's top branded food, beverage, and consumer products companies. The organization's member companies employ more than 2.5 million workers in all 50 states and account for more than $680 billion in sales.
