GMA Installs P&G’s Lafley to Hall of Achievement

A.G. Lafley, retired chairman, president and CEO of The Procter & Gamble Co., has been selected by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) for inclusion into the 2010 Hall of Achievement.

“The Hall of Achievement Award was established to recognize those individuals who have demonstrated lifelong commitment to, and achievement within, the consumer packaged goods industry,” explained GMA president and CEO Pamela Bailey. “If anyone is deserving of such an honor, it is A.G. Lafley. His contributions to our industry and the American business community at large are great and many.” Bailey added that GMA will present Lafley with GMA’s highest honor at its executive conference in August.

A.G. Lafley retired from Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble in February 2010 after 32 years of distinguished service. He became president and CEO of the company in 2000 and was elected chairman of the board in 2002. His focus on consumer-driven innovation and consistent, sustainable growth helped more than double P&G sales and grow the portfolio of billion-dollar brands from 10 to 24 during his leadership tenure. At the time of his retirement, P&G was one of the five most valuable companies in the United States.

Lafley served on GMA’s board of directors from 2000 to 2009. He is a member of the board of directors of the General Electric Co. and is also chairman of the board of trustees of his alma mater, Hamilton College. His past board memberships include Dell, Inc. and General Motors Corp. Lafley is the author of numerous journal articles and co-author of the highly acclaimed 2008 book “The Game-Changer: How You Can Drive Revenue and Profit Growth with Innovation.”

Active in his community, Lafley has supported various Cincinnati fine arts groups, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the United Negro College Fund and a multitude of other organizations.

Lafley is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he first gained managerial and supply chain experience, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
