GMA Welcomes Food Safety Pros

Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has appointed Melinda Hayman its director of microbiology and William Koshute a GMA scientist in chemistry.

GMA has a world-class food safety practice, and I am confident that both Melinda and William have the scientific expertise and experience to help make it even more robust and effective,” noted George Dunaif, VP of food safety and technical services for the Washington, D.C.-based trade organization. “Their appointments are part of GMA’s continued commitment to strengthen its scientific and technical capabilities in critically important areas of food safety.”

Hayman is a food microbiologist with more than 10 years of experience specializing in food safety, including government and industry appointments. Most recently, she was director of technical services at San Antonio-based Food Safety Net Services (FSNS), where she managed laboratory quality systems, training, method validation and special projects. In this role, she interacted with many segments of the food industry to develop food safety solutions for a range of customers.

Koshute’s most recent position was as a pharmaceutical research scientist for Bridgewater, N.J.-based Sanofi-Aventis in analytical support for new drug applications. He brings to his new role extensive experience in the areas of method development and validation, protein purification, immunodiagnostics and food biotechnology.

Hayman reports to Dunaif, while Koshute reports to Dan Howell, GMA’s director of claims laboratory.
