Grocery Outlet to Open 125th Store in Stockton, CA.

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Shoppers at new Grocery Outlet here will be burning away fat on their new George Foreman Grills, which will be given away to the first 100 customers in a grand opening promotion that begins April 1.

As is customary for the retailer, the grand opening celebrations will continue throughout the weekend of April 1st and over the next several weeks, featuring prize drawings and giveaways to welcome customers into the new supermarket.

The store -- Grocery Outlet's 125th and 52nd store operating in California -- will have a traditional Grocery Outlet footprint of approximately 14,000 square feet of sales space, and will sell branded products at discounted prices.

Moving forward, however, this footprint may change, as Grocery Outlet experiments with new styles and offerings. "At some stores, we are bringing fresh meats, which historically have been difficult to negotiate good prices for," Jon Wylie, dir. of marketing told Progressive Grocer. "But we made some new deals with suppliers and are testing the offerings in some pilots."

Grocery Outlet specializes in discounted brand name products, including fresh produce, frozen and refrigerated foods, dry groceries, beer and wine, health and beauty care, over-the-counter drugs, household products, toys, and gifts. The business currently encompasses 124 stores in 6 Western States (WA, OR, ID, NV, AZ, CA) and Hawaii.
