HEB Central Market Introduces Certified Organic Hot Dogs

SAN ANTONIO - H.E. Butt Grocery Co.'s Central Market stores are exclusively carrying certified organic all beef hot dogs produced by Dakota Beef LLC, and the products are selling briskly, according to the meat supplier.

"We have been overwhelmed by how well our All-American Organic Hot Dog is selling this fall at Central Market," said Matt Grove, Dakota Beef's v.p. of sales, in a statement. "Texas is a sophisticated market with highly educated consumers. It only makes sense for Central Market to be the retail launch of our new all beef hot dog."

A recent report by research firm Mintel International Group estimated that the organic meat market will increase 71 percent in constant prices over the next five years. According to the study, the organic meat sector grew 140 percent over the last two years, facilitated by the increased emphasis on organic products at traditional retailers.

The Organic Trade Association said organic meat and poultry are the fastest growing segment in the organic industry. Sales of organic products as a whole have grown at an annual rate of 20 percent over the past decade, reaching $15 billion in 2004, with $32 billion in sales projected by 2009.

Central Market has locations throughout Texas in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Plano, and San Antonio.

Dakota Beef LLC claims to be the leading certified organic beef company in the country, operating its own certified organic, USDA inspected processing plant in Howard, S.D.
