HEB Recalls Baby Food Line
SAN ANTONIO -- HEB here said it has issued a recall of its entire HEB Baby Food line, including Mom's Choice Organic Baby Food, in response to three consumer reports of glass shards found inside jars of peas, carrots, and applesauce. The reports originated in Houston and Corpus Christi, but the grocer made the decision to remove the products from all of its Texas stores on Wednesday.
"Though these reports have been isolated to just a few products in the HEB baby food line, as a company we are committed to absolute and complete food safety," said Winnell Herron, group v.p. of public affairs, in a statement. "As a result of that commitment, coupled with the fact that we are dealing with a children's product, we have made the decision to pull all of our HEB baby food from our shelves."
Herron added that no injuries were reported relating to any of the recalled products.
HEB said it would launch a full investigation, including taking the food to a quality-assurance lab for testing. It also promised to work closely with suppliers to make sure they observe all appropriate safety measures when manufacturing the products.
The company urged consumers who recently bought the baby food to take it to their nearest HEB store for a refund.
HEB's more than 300 stores serve more than 150 communities throughout Texas and Mexico.
