Homeland and Cargill Help Shoppers Ditch Their Grungy Grills

When given the chance to swap out their grungy grill, summer grillers came out of the woodwork in Oklahoma. The Red River Ranch Angus beef brand hosted a grungy grill photo contest early this summer.

The consumer contest, hosted in Homeland, United and Country Mart stores throughout Oklahoma, sought out to replace five shoppers' overused, grungy grills. With more than 4,700 online votes, the grand-prize winner was Billy Mabray from Yukon, Okla., who received a new stainless steel Weber Genesis gas grill.

"It makes us cringe thinking of all the old, worn-out grills that aren't worthy of our juicy, tender steaks," said Matt Glanzer, brand manager, Cargill. "A great steak deserves a great grill, especially as grilling season reaches its peak this summer."

During the month of June, consumers had the opportunity to post photos of themselves with their grungy grill and share a short story. Nearly 30 photos were submitted for the contest. Four runners-up received Weber Q300 gas grills.

The photo contest was timed to coincide with one of the most popular summer activities: outdoor grilling. According to the 2011 Weber GrillWatch Survey, 25 percent of Americans will have at least five barbecue parties this summer.

The promotion ended June 24 and was carried in all of the Homeland, United and Country Mart banner stores.
