IGA Honors Three International Retailers of the Year

The IGA honored three independent grocers as 2008 International Retailers of the Year at its 2008 IGA Global Summit Awards Banquet in Carefree, Ariz. last week. The winners hailed from the U.S., Australia, and the Caribbean, and were chosen as representatives of their countries to receive IGA's top retail honors from the more than 4,000 IGA retailers worldwide, the trade group said.

Though the selection process varied from country to country, these three retailers were chosen for having achieved exemplary excellence in retailing and advancement of the IGA Brand as determined by IGA's globally applied standards, IGA said.

The winners are Tim Henderson, Henderson's IGA, Valentine, Neb., USA, supplied by Affiliated Foods Midwest; David Scally, Ballina Supa IGA, Ballina, NSW, Australia, supplied by IGA New South Wales Division; and Edith Cox, Graceway IGA, Providenciales, Turks, and Caicos, supplied by Supervalu Inc., Southeast Region/Quincy Division.

With nearly 4,000 Hometown Proud Supermarkets worldwide supported by 36 distribution companies and more than 55 major manufacturers, vendors and suppliers, IGA is the world's largest voluntary supermarket network with aggregate worldwide retail sales of more than $21 billion per year.
