IGA Names President's Cup Winners

CHICAGO -- Global voluntary supermarket network IGA has named its 2006 President's Cup Award winners, honoring four licensed grocery distribution centers for their gains in IGA retail sales from the prior year, net increase in total IGA retail square footage, the number of supermarkets added to the IGA system, the IGA Operational Assessment rating, IGA brand support, Hometown Proud involvement, and participation in IGA events.

The 2006 recipients are:

-- Laurel Grocery Company, a full-line food wholesaler that serves IGA retailers in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia, was awarded the IGA President's Cup for Overall IGA Performance.

-- Bozzuto's, Inc., a leading total service wholesale distributor of food and household products to IGA retailers in New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, was awarded the IGA President's Cup for Greatest IGA Brand Development.

-- Merchants Distributors, Inc., a privately owned wholesale grocery store distributor headquartered in Hickory, N.C., was awarded the IGA President's Cup for Greatest IGA Development. MDI supplies IGA stores in North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

-- IGA Queensland was awarded the IGA President's Cup for Greatest International IGA Development. IGA Queensland serves IGA retailers in an area of more than 2,500 square kilometers ranging from the far north of Queensland to northern New South Wales.

We salute these four licensed distribution centers for the continual commitment they display to IGA year after year, and we thank them for helping our 'Hometown Proud' retailers serve their beloved communities."

In related news, IGA has also named the recipients of the IGA Red Oval Family Awards of Distinction. ConAgra Foods, Inc. received the Red Oval Award for Extraordinary IGA Growth, while Georgia Pacific Corp. received the Red Oval Award for Extraordinary IGA Commitment.

The Red Oval Awards of Distinction are presented each year to two Red Oval Family partners. Criteria for the awards are focused largely on participation in the Red Oval Advisory Committee, support of IGA events, and IGA Grocergram advertising.
