Italian Coop Conad del Tirreno to Install Software for Better Inventory Control

PISTOIA, Italy -- Conad del Tirreno Group, a cooperative of more than 340 independent food retailers yesterday licensed several software solutions to centralize and optimize its operations and IT infrastructure.

With stores throughout Italy and a new 51,000 square meter warehouse in Tuscania, Conad is implementing Scottsdale, Ariz.-based JDA Software's warehouse replenishment, space, and category management software with the goal of improving operating margins and service levels, streamlining processes, and balancing inventory levels.

"JDA provides a warehouse replenishment solution that supports efficient inventory management along with speculative buying opportunities and optimized promotional execution," said Roberto Franci, Conad's c.o.o. "These are important capabilities for us in our plan to reduce over-stocks and out-of-stocks to increase inventory turns."

In addition to the replenishment software, Conad will deploy several JDA space and category management applications to drive performance at the shelf. The retailer already successfully launched its first pilot that involved 10 point-of-sales systems and eight product categories.

"We will use JDA applications, with their fully-integrated category management workflow processes, to review assortment clustering logic and centralize data flow at the distribution center level," says Lauro Cabano, Conad's planning director.

Conad will continue to implement the following applications of JDA's Intactix suite in 2007: Space Planning, Space Automation, Efficient Item Assortment, Intactix Knowledgebase, and Web Publisher. The retailer is also well underway with its implementation of Advanced Warehouse Replenishment by E3 software (owned by JDA) and expects to extend its capabilities to all suppliers by mid-2007.
