Jackson Won’t Succeed Zaucha at NGA
Citing personal reasons, Mike Jackson has opted not to succeed outgoing president and CEO Tom Zaucha at the National Grocers Association (NGA). Jackson, the onetime president and COO of Minneapolis-based Supervalu, would have taken the helm on March 1 from the well-liked Zaucha, a founder of the Arlington, Va.-based trade association, which represents the retail and wholesale grocers comprising the independent sector of the food distribution industry.
“Of course, we are disappointed with Mike’s decision,” noted NGA chairman Chris Coborn, who is also the president and CEO of St. Cloud, Minn.-based Coborn’s, Inc. “Fortunately, the selection committee, in conjunction with a search firm, conducted an exhaustive search that identified a number of very qualified professionals both inside the association and outside the industry. The committee will now reconvene and a successor will be selected in the near future. Tom Zaucha is scheduled to retire at the end of June, so we do have ample time to make the best decision for the future of NGA”
“I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the association and staff and am confident that NGA will continue to play a strong leadership role in our industry,” added Jackson.
NGA members include retail and wholesale grocers and state grocers associations, as well as manufacturers and service suppliers.
