NFRA Gears Up for Sixth Annual Ice Cream and Novelties Promotion

HARRISBURG, Pa -- The National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) here is preparing to roll out its sixth annual ice cream and novelties promotion in June and July. NFRA will join with 23 ice cream and novelty brands for the "Summer Favorites" initiative.

This year the promotion offers a Summer Favorites Retail Display Contest, with retailers from across the United States vying for the Golden and Silver Penguin Awards, and the $100,000 Online Instant Win Game, which shoppers can seek out on NFRA's consumer Web site, www.EasyHomeMeals.com. The association is additionally providing a range of Summer Favorites point-of-sale materials.

Store managers, owners, operators, and employees may enter the retail display contest, which runs between June 1, and July 31, on behalf of their store, and sales agents, manufacturer representatives, and local associations may also enter. Entrants must build different displays during the nine-week promotion, showcasing multiple ice cream and novelty products of the sponsoring brands. The $100,000 Online Instant Win Game must be promoted, directing consumers to the consumer site to participate. The entry deadline for the display contest is Aug. 17, 2007.

Golden and Silver Penguins will be awarded for the Northeast, Southeast, East Central, West Central, Southwest, and Pacific/Western regions, and winners will be honored at the Golden Penguin Awards banquet in October during the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention in San Antonio.

The Online Instant Win Game runs from June 1 through Aug. 13, 2007.

NFRA's Summer Favorites POS materials and downloadable artwork is available online at www.nfraweb.org/newsletter9.html, as is detailed information on the promotion, including sponsoring brands, the official rules and entry form for the display contest, and Summer Favorites Online Instant Win Game artwork and a downloadable brochure.

Summer Favorites is part of the association's "Frozen Foods - Fresh Ideas. Great Taste." campaign, an all-industry promotional effort introduced in 2002 with the aim of attracting more consumers to the frozen food aisle and boosting usage/sales across the category by promoting products' convenience, quality, taste, and meal solution aspects.

NFRA, a nonprofit trade association representing all segments of the frozen and refrigerated foods industry, also sponsors National Frozen Food Month in March, Dairy Month in June, and October "Frozen Foods Festival" promotions.
