Ohio Food Industry Foundation Honored for Preparedness Guide, CartSmart Program

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Food Industry Foundation (OFIF) here has been named to the 2006 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Washington, D.C. The foundation received the award for its Retail Food Defense Preparedness Guide and CartSmart program.

The OFIF developed the Retail Food Defense Preparedness Guide to allow retailers to assess their business security and establish a food defense plan. The guide was distributed through local health departments to all retail food establishments in Ohio with the support of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

CartSmart is an informational program that includes "smart" solutions for meals, snacks, exercise activities, and holiday ideas. CartSmart is published quarterly on the OFIF Web site. The target audience for CartSmart is the retail grocer in Ohio who has an interest in assisting the primary household shopper in making healthy shopping decisions. CartSmart is the product of the OFIF Health and Fitness Task Force.

OFIF is the philanthropic arm of the Ohio Grocers Association, which is a statewide trade association representing more than 700 companies, including retail grocers, wholesalers, suppliers, and manufacturers.
