For four years, PG has recognized women who not only excel as leaders, mentors and role models in their professional endeavors and individual communities, but who also unmistakably love their jobs.

Nominations were accepted in the following categories: Senior-level Executives (open to retailers, suppliers and wholesalers with titles of VP or higher, for the most part), Rising Stars (retailers, suppliers and wholesalers with job titles above store manager, but below VP) and Store Managers.

“This year, Progressive Grocer received an exceptional number of nominations for outstanding female executives from across the country, 114 of whom were selected to collectively represent the true architects of change in a business where men have traditionally far outnumbered women in all capacities, save clerk,” said PG's Editor-in-Chief, Meg Major. “A quick scan of the Top Women winners quickly dispels lingering perceptions that women are not making major strides to rapidly advance to the front offices, corner suites, store director’s offices and distribution control centers.”

“As in years past, we have the esteemed honor of paying tribute to this remarkable group of women,” said Steven Lichtenstein, PG’s VP/Group Publisher. “The entire staff of Progressive Grocer and Stagnito Media can’t wait to extend our sincere congratulations to all of our 2010 Top Women in Grocery, along with their employers, at our awards reception and dinner.”

Also on Nov. 11, PG will also honor the 10 winners of its third annual Green Grocers Awards alongside the Green Grocers Hall of Fame winners. The Green Grocer Awards recognize those industry leaders dedicating themselves to social responsibility through green initiatives. The 2010 Green Grocers comprise myriad business styles and sizes -- from natural markets to multistore chains to independent grocers -- that embody the green mission in a variety of ways.

The grocery industry’s long-standing commitment to green initiatives led the PG editorial team also to induct the first 10 members into the Green Grocers Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame selections are prior Green Grocers being honored for their consistent contributions to taking the industry’s eco-friendly commitment to the next level. Hall of Fame inductees will continue to be considered for subsequent Green Grocer honors for specific projects in years to come.

“It was such a pleasure to review the submissions for this honor that pays tribute to the great strides the grocery industry is making to expand its sustainability portfolios as part of increasingly important corporate social responsibility efforts,” said Major. “We also look forward to honoring this year’s new Green Grocer inductees, as well as the Hall of Fame winners, in Washington.”
