Pork Industry Seeks Consumer's Choice Nominees

DES MOINES, Iowa – America’s Pork Producers are calling for nominations for the National Pork Board’s fourth annual Consumer’s Choice Awards.

Producers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, media professionals, and consumers are all being encouraged to submit their favorite products. Deadline for entries is December 10, 2004.

Historically, entries have included a broad range of pork items, from everyday meals and snacks to special dishes. "Overall, taste has been paramount in judging criteria, but convenience has played an important role as well," said Becca Hendricks, strategic marketing manager of the National Pork Board. "Interestingly, convenience means different things to different people, from speed to packaging to ease of preparation."

New this year, the program will also honor products that stand out as innovative with the Esteemed Trendsetters Award. From the pool of product entries received, America’s Pork Producers will hand-select the winners of this award. Pork items that exhibit a unique and inventive approach to product development with cutting-edge concepts in areas such as research and development, cut usage, packaging, flavoring or convenience.

2005 Consumer’s Choice Pork Award winners will be bestowed not only with the coveted Golden Fork award, but also with exclusive use of the official program award seal for merchandising efforts. Five products receive the highest distinction of Consumer’s Choice Pork Award winners.
