Price Chopper's Mona Golub Promoted to V.P. of PR and Consumer Services

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Golub Corp./Price Chopper Supermarkets here said yesterday that Mona Golub has been promoted to v.p. of public relations and consumer services. She previously served as director of public relations and consumer services.

In her new position, Mona, daughter of president and c.e.o. Neil Golub and director of vendor income programs Jane N. Golub, will handle public relations and oversight for all consumer services and programs, including promotions and special events, community relations, customer communications, and the Golub Foundation for the Northeast regional chain.

In addition to her duties at Price Chopper, Mona recently completed a four-year term as a Schenectady County legislator; and currently belongs to several committees that promote tourism and economic development in the county.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates 111 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub employs more than 23,000 associates, who collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.

In other Price Chopper news, Prospect Heights, Ill.-based HSBC Bank has joined with Price Chopper to solve the problem of HSBC Bank debit cards being rejected at the retailer's checkouts, according to a published report. The reason for this, according to HSBC officials, is that the bank's computer system isn't in alignment with Price Chopper's system, so the grocer's cash registers won't take the cards' PINs. The problem should be fixed in a month's time, said HSBC, which recommended that meanwhile its debit card users could use them at Price Chopper by performing credit card transactions, which don't require the PIN to be used, or withdrawing money from in-store cash machines.
