Purina and Wegmans Achieve Full Data Synchronization and System Integration With UCCnet

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - UCCnet, a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides data synchronization and item registration based on industry developed standards, announced today that Wegmans Food Markets and the Nestle Purina PetCare Company (formerly Ralston Purina Company) are now using UCCnet services for communicating product information for all Purina product categories carried by Wegmans.

"Achieving full data synchronization between our enterprise systems is the result of a collaborative effort and the dedication of core team members from both companies," said Donald Mowery, director of electronic business for Purina. "Full implementation of UCCnet services between Nestle Purina and Wegmans will have immediate benefits by improving the quality of transactions, speeding time to market for new products and item changes and reducing rework. Data synchronization also lays the groundwork for future CPFR initiatives between the two companies."

Wegmans and Purina, who first synchronized product information for one product category using UCCnet last year, were two of the initial pilot companies that have worked to develop and refine UCCnet services since the organization's inception. The two companies will be able to reduce costly administrative errors in invoice pricing, purchase orders, product delivery and scanning accuracy.

Through UCCnet, Wegmans and Purina have access to a synchronized product authorization file, ensuring that the right information for the right products is always available to Purina and Wegmans. Purina is able to actively update information to existing products or add new product information through UCCnet. Once product information has been changed or added, it is automatically transmitted to Wegmans through UCCnet and integrated with the retailer's internal ERP system.

"Wegmans' connection to the UCCnet system will provide immediate notification of any changes to item information across our entire supplier community," said Mike Merulla, electronic commerce manager at Wegmans. "We're excited about the business benefits of working with Purina through UCCnet and getting more of our suppliers up and running on the system as soon as possible."
