Senior Stop & Shop Executive Joins Modiv Media’s Board

Stephen Vowles, SVP for Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover Supermarkets, has joined media solutions vendor Modiv Media’s board of directors.

“The addition of Stephen Vowles to the board adds real value for Modiv Media, our partners and our customers,” said Paul Schaut, Modiv Media chairman and CEO. “His experience on both sides of the brand management equation is a great asset for the company.”

Ahold USA, parent of Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover, is a longtime customer of Quincy-based Modiv Media, and last month expanded the deployment of its personal shopping solution -- which delivers coupons and promotions based on individual shopping histories and enables customers to scan and bag their items -- to 250 Stop & Shop and Giant Food stores.

Vowles led the successful rebranding of Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover in 2008. Prior to joining Stop & Shop, he was customer marketing director at Sainsbury’s, the United Kingdom’s second-largest grocer, and previously worked for eight years in brand management at Procter & Gamble, managing a range of brands across Western Europe.

“The potential for Modiv’s consumer-facing digital media and shopping solutions is far-reaching,” noted Vowles. “Our Scan It! system, based on Modiv Shopper, has met with widespread approval in the 250 Stop & Shop and Giant-Landover stores where it is installed.”

The vendor’s Modiv Shopper is a handheld, self-service scan-and-bag solution that delivers relevant coupons and promotional messages to shoppers in the aisle. In addition, the company offers Modiv DeliVision, a product for supermarket deli departments that combines queue management, self-service kiosk ordering and targeted marketing.
