ShopKo Stores Rolls Out New DSD System

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- ShopKo Stores, Inc., a multi-department retailer with 363 stores in the Western and Pacific states, yesterday completed the rollout of a direct store delivery (DSD) solution across its 140-store ShopKo Stores Division.

The solution, SoftGrocer, from SofTechnics, an Akron, Ohio-based provider of mobile price and inventory management solutions, is a GTIN-compliant solution with the architectural flexibility to allow retailers to implement and maintain data and systems at multiple levels of the organization, according to SofTechnics.

"We believe that SoftGrocer's Direct Store Delivery (DSD) solution is the management tool we need to optimize receiving operations at the store and reduce paper invoice handling," said Matt Lynch, s.v.p. and c.i.o. of ShopKo Stores, Inc.

The Direct Exchange Receiving (DEX) application, a module of the DSD system, is a method of electronically transferring information between a supplier and retailer at the time of delivery. The supplier, utilizing DEX, loads his invoice into the stores' computer. The system verifies quantities, costs, and allowances and reconciles any differences and adjusts the invoice.
