Spartan’s Medallion Campaign Supports Special Olympics

To help raise funds for Michigan’s upcoming Special Olympic Summer Games June 3 through June 5, Spartan Stores, through its D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Felpausch Food Centers, Glen’s Markets and VG’s Food & Pharmacy locations, as well as other participating supplied stores, is offering Special Olympics fundraising medallions through May 22. In return for the $1 donation per medallion, customers receive four coupons valued at over $2.80.

Customers who wish to “Be a Fan” of Special Olympics and support the cause can make their donation for a medallion(s) at the checkout of D&W Fresh Markets, Family Fare Supermarkets, Felpausch Food Centers, Glen’s Markets and VG’s Food & Pharmacy throughout Michigan, as well as other independently owned stores supplied by Spartan.

“Spartan Stores is committed to Special Olympics and raising funds for the Summer Games,” said Jeanne Norcross, VP of corporate affairs for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer and distributor. “We salute the participating athletes, families, volunteers, retail vendors and customers who are involved with Special Olympics. Their participation and support ensures the games’ success each year.”

Spartan has been a sponsor of the Special Olympics Michigan Summer Games since 1985. Over the past 26 years, the company’s corporate contribution to Special Olympics Michigan has reached a total of $7 million. In addition to financial support, associates who work for Spartan and its supermarkets volunteer their time at the Summer Games and help make this inspirational event a reality for the 3,000 athletes who compete.

In addition to its 96 corporately owned supermarkets in Michigan, Spartan supplies about 350 independent grocery stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
