Supermarket Vet McCormick Takes Reigns Of KC’s Retail Grocers Association

Kansas City supermarket industry veteran Jon McCormick has been named president of the Retail Grocers Association of Greater Kansas City (RGA), Kansas’ largest retail trade association. A non-profit organization, RGA is operated by and for retail food store operators and their suppliers. McCormick’s duties will include overseeing the Food Industry Services, Inc., (an advanced technology service provider) and the Kansas Food Dealers Association, both operated under the RGA management umbrella.

During his 40-year career in the supermarket/retail industry, McCormick has worn a variety of hats, including 15 years as a supermarket owner/operator, Associated Wholesale Grocer’s executive director of member services; president of FMS, an accounting and payroll software and services provider; and most recently, VP of supermarket solutions at Balance Innovations, a company that develops technology-based cash management solutions for retail businesses nationwide.

“As president of the RGA, one of my many goals is to protect and grow the assets of the association and our member retailers while raising the level of their satisfaction with the organization,” said McCormick. “Other priorities include re-establishing a positive political presence in state, local and national affairs, and focusing on the future, creating a place of learning for the next generation of Kansas and Missouri supermarket leaders.”

“When it comes to our industry, Jon has truly done it all,” says Alan McKeever, owner, McKeever’s Price Chopper stores. “From owning and operating supermarkets to managing as many as 500 teammates to developing technologies that increase efficiencies, Jon understands the challenges supermarket retailers face every day.”

McCormick belongs to several industry associations and advisory councils. His educational background includes a BS of communications at Xavier University, market-based management at Kansas University, and long time memberships and involvement in the National Grocers Association and the Food Marketing Institute. McCormick and his wife and three children live in Lenexa.
