Unified EVP Bob Ling Named Calif. Grocers Assn. Chair

Bob Ling, e.v.p. of wholesaler Unified Grocers, Inc. was elected 2008-2009 chairman of the California Grocers Association at the trade group’s annual meeting held last week.

As chairman, Ling will oversee all of the association’s programs, and will serve a one-year term. He succeeds immediate past chair Richard E. Morgan, president, Holiday/Sav-Mor Foods, Cottonwood, Calif.

“Bob brings a great deal of knowledge and expertise to this position,” said CGA’s president and c.e.o. Ronald Fong. “He is a good businessman with a deep commitment to our industry.”

In addition to his role as e.v.p. at Unified, Ling is the company’s general council, and is responsible for human resources, labor relations, real estate, and government relations functions. He is also chairman of the CGA Educational Foundation board of trustees.

In addition to Ling, the following individuals were elected to the CGA board of directors executive committee: first vice chair, George Frahm, Stater Bros. Markets; second vice chair, Jim Amen, Super A Foods, Inc.; treasurer, Mike Silveira, Save Mart Supermarkets; past chair, Richard E. Morgan, Jr., Holiday/Sav-Mor Foods.

This year's chairman's appointments to the executive committee include: John LeGuluche, Kraft Foods Global, Inc.; Bill Cote, Superior Grocers, and Karl Schroeder, Safeway Inc.

Directors elected for a second three-year term: Vince Delgado, Procter & Gamble; Jyoti Kelly, Big Saver Foods, Inc.; Tracy Mauldin-Avery, Costco Wholesale; Jack Neugebauer, Bimbo Bakeries USA; Bob Nugent, Scolari’s Food & Drug Co.; Naresh Solanki, Bestway/Gardena Supermarkets; and Jerry Whitmore, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.

Directors elected for their first full three-year term: Leon Bergmann, C&S Wholesale Grocers; Tammy Brusseau, Albertsons, Inc., Southern California Division; Rick Fry, Northgate Gonzales Markets; Keith Jones, 7-Eleven, Inc.; Kevin Konkel, Raley¹s; Karl Schroeder, Safeway Inc.; and Dora Wong, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Calif.

Former chairman of the board William Anderson, Raley’s (retired), was nominated an honorary board member.

The CGA represents approximately 500 retail members operating over 6,000 food stores in California and Nevada, and approximately 200 grocery supplier companies.
