Wild Oats Removes Products with Hydrogenated Oils for Heart Health Month

BOULDER, Colo. - Natural and organic foods retailer Wild Oats Markets Inc. said it has removed all products containing hydrogenated oils from its shelves to recognize Heart Health Month.

With the national focus this month on heart health, the company said it decided to make this move as a result of research indicating there are long-term health risks associated with the consumption of trans fats, including a direct link to heart disease. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given food manufacturers a 2006 deadline to label the amount of trans fats (solid fats created through hydrogenation) in their products.

Wild Oats has also provided information to its employees so that they have in-depth knowledge about the store's heart-friendly products.
