AWI Lowers Prices On More Than 2,000 Grocery Items

Retailer-owned grocery cooperative Associated Wholesalers Inc. (AWI) has gotten a jump on the holidays by unveiling a 12-week price reduction program – Super Savers – which runs through Jan. 4.

Targeting more than 2,000 seasonal grocery items, the three-month campaign will roll out across some 250 independent supermarkets in Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Ohio.

“Consumers are looking for ways to ease the stress of the holidays while stretching their dollars,” said Fred Foose, marketing director for Robesonia, Pa.-based AWI. “Because Super Savers runs throughout the holidays, customers can purchase the seasonal items they need at lower prices whenever it’s most convenient for them to fit grocery shopping into their busy schedules.”

Among the supermarket banner groups that have banded together for the holiday price reduction program are Central Pa.’s Shurfine Markets, Family Owned Markets and Stauffers of Kissel Hill, and ShurSave Markets in northeast Pennsylvania. In addition, more than 150 other independently owned and operated supermarkets throughout the Mid-Atlantic region also have rolled out AWI’s Super Savers program, which will be highlighted by shelf flags, high-visibility point-of-purchase and store signage.

AWI supplies its supermarket and convenience store member-owners in the eastern U.S., Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, with food and household products, including its own Shurfine and White Rose brands, from its distribution centers in Robesonia and York, Pa., and Carteret, N.J.
