Burns’ Fresh Grocer Teams With Temple Hoopsters for Anti-hunger Project

Burns’ Family Neighborhood Markets, owner of The Progress Plaza Fresh Grocer, partnered with the Temple University's Men’s Basketball and Learfield’s Temple Sports Properties in Three’s for Hunger donation promotion for Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest food bank.  For every three-point basket the Temple team made during its regular season, the retailer promised to donate one case of non-perishable food to Philabundance.

The team connected on 237 three-pointers, a banner year as the Owls led the American Athletic Conference in three-point baskets. The Fresh Grocer of Progress Plaza staff, Temple head coach Fran Dunphy and his players along with members of the Temple Athletics administration unloaded the truckloads of food at the Philabundance warehouse on May 25, fulfilling the pledge.

“By sponsoring the Three’s for Hunger program we help strengthen our organization’s commitment to Philabundance and the organization’s important hunger relief efforts in our community,” said Patrick Burns, president and CEO of Burns’ Family Neighborhood Markets. “We look forward to supporting this great program for years to come.”

In addition to The Progress Plaza Fresh Grocer, the Burns family operates another four Fresh Grocer supermarkets and one ShopRite market in the greater Philadelphia area.
