Burns’ Supermarkets Presents $8,500 to Red Cross

The Burns’ Family Fresh Grocer Supermarkets this morning presented the American Red Cross with a check for $8,500, funds which were raised through contributions received during the supermarket’s second annual fundraiser that took place in March in honor of Red Cross Month.

“The overwhelming generosity of our customers combined with the dedication of our hard-working associates made our second annual Red Cross Month fundraiser a great success,” said Patrick J. Burns, president and CEO of the Burns’ Family Supermarkets. “Every dollar donated through this campaign will help those in need both locally and throughout the country through the tireless and selfless work of the American Red Cross.  We look forward to hosting this fundraiser year after year.”

During the fundraising campaign, customers were given the opportunity to donate $1, $3 or $5 at checkout, the proceeds of which will help the Red Cross to deliver on its mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies.

The check presentation took place at The Fresh Grocer of Progress Plaza in Philadelphia. This store location was most successful in their fundraising efforts, responsible for raising over 35 percent of total donations.

Throughout the fundraiser, the Burns’ Family Fresh Grocer Supermarkets invited customers to “be an everyday hero” by supporting the Red Cross with a small monetary contribution. Signs were posted throughout the supermarkets; employees wore campaign buttons; weekly circulars promoted the program; and social media sites buzzed with talk from customers and associates about progress made throughout the month.

A member of the Wakefern Food Cooperative, Patrick J. Burns currently operates seven Fresh Grocer supermarkets and one ShopRite supermarket location throughout the (PA, DE, NJ) Tri-State area.
