Festival Foods' 2016 ‘Icon’ Campaigns Raises $224K

Offering customers an easy way to donate at the register, Festival Foods' “icon” campaigns raised more than $224,000 last year for nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin.

The checkout donations involve a personal “ask” by the staff, creating an interactive and educational process for both customers and associations. Cashiers ask whether the customer would like to donate, and the customer then has the opportunity to add a $1 or $5 donation to their bill. Customers are then given an icon to post their name on a wall in the store.

Nonprofit organizations apply to hold a 15-day icon campaign, and store staff vote on which nonprofit they want to support. For instance, the La Crosse store's icon sales currently support the Hunger Task Force, Steppin’ Out in Pink, Salvation Army Red Kettle and Freedom Honor Flight.

“We enjoy helping community organizations raise additional funds through fundraising icon sales in our stores,” said Mark Skogen, Festival Foods President and CEO.

De Pere, Wis.-based Festival Foods currently has more than 6,700 associates at 26 locations.
