Freshline Foods Moves to AWG

Freshline Foods, based in Oak Lawn, Ill, a suburb of Chicago, has switched to Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) as its grocery supplier.

“We went with AWG because [it’s] solid. That was very important to us. We’re a one-store operation. Our store is our livelihood; we don’t like taking unnecessary risks,” said Peter Siakotos, who runs Freshline with his 83-year-old father, who still spends seven days a week in the store.

One of the biggest draws of AWG was its private label, The Best Choice, noted Siakotos. “[AWG has] a huge variety of products, and our customers want choices and good deals. Plus, these products are 100 percent guaranteed. It’s win-win.”

Freshline Foods opened in 1971 and has grown to 22,000 square feet, evolving to keep pace with the ever-changing neighborhood that surrounds the store and is increasingly demanding convenience.

AWG Business Development Director Dave McKelvey noted: “Freshline Foods is the definition of the original independent grocer. They have one store that’s surrounded by competition. We’re glad they partnered with us, [and] we’re going to help them however we can so they stay successful.”
