Inserra Supermarkets Debuts Healthy Meal Program

Inserra Supermarkets has introduced a Meal of the Week program designed to help shoppers put nutritious, home-cooked meals on their tables by offering a new, easy-to-prepare recipe once a week with the ingredients needed conveniently located in the refrigerated case. The program is available in about half of Inserra’s 22 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York; it will expanded to more stores later in the year.

“Our shoppers are increasingly mindful of making healthier food choices for themselves and their families,” said Lindsey Inserra, VP of health and wellness of the family-owned grocery chain, which is based in Mahwah, N.J. and a member of the Wakefern Food Corp. retailer cooperative. “Busy schedules can get in the way of putting a home-cooked meal on the dinner table, though.”

The program puts everything customers need, from idea to ingredients, right at their fingertips in a one-stop system, Inserra added. Recent recipes have included chicken and poblana fajitas, roasted chicken with bulgur salad, and London broil with green beans.

The Meal of the Week adds to the company’s philosophy of focusing on health and wellness; 10 stores have an in-store registered dietitian program. The dietitian program hosts monthly LiveRight events that focus on nutrition counseling and health screenings, as well as sponsoring cooking classes for both adults and children.
