Inserra Supermarkets Honors Longtime Associates

In celebration of its 63rd anniversary, Inserra Supermarkets ShopRite recently honored 151 longtime associates, with a collective total of 2,500-plus years of service, at its Associate Anniversary Dinner at The Venetian, in Garfield, N.J. The honorees marked milestone anniversaries spanning five to 55 years at the family-owned chain’s 22 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York.

The 55-year veteran, Bill Gordon, joined Inserra Supermarkets at the age of 19 as a butcher in the meat department, was quickly promoted to meat manager, and has held a variety of leadership roles at the company’s stores, including ShopRites of Hasbrouck Heights, Ramsey, West Milford and Emerson.

“The Inserras are truly good people, who take care of their associates,” said Gordon at the celebration. “You rarely see that type of loyalty and caring from companies these days. As you can understand, it is a main reason so many of us stay for years and years.”

“At Inserra Supermarkets, many associates start, find a home here and stay for years, often decades,” noted Ron Onorato, president and COO of the Mahwah, N.J.-based company. “That loyalty is a reflection of the inspired leadership of each generation of the Inserra family as the company has continued to grow and implement successful change through the years.”

At the event, honorees enjoyed a gourmet buffet dinner before the awards ceremony, which was followed by a Viennese table laden with cakes, tarts, fruits, mousses and other indulgent desserts.

Founded in 1954 and currently operated by the third and fourth generations of the Inserra family, along with Onorato, Inserra Supermarkets provides full- and part-time positions to more than 4,800 associates.
