Macey’s Completes 3-store Remodel

Salt Lake City-based independent Macey’s has completed remodels of its grocery stores in the towns of West Jordan, Provo and Pleasant Grove, complete with fresh décor, and a new but familiar store logo.

The store logo has been modernized to catch the eye of today’s shopper, according to Jason Sokol, director of retail marketing, Associated Food Stores. “We have updated the logo subtly to be more playful,” he said. “There is even [a] smile hidden within the logo to represent the decades of happiness our teams have brought to their jobs and local communities.”

New décor and packaging will be found in every department, including the renaming of the Deal Wall, now called Treasure Aisle; and the Little Theater, which is now the Cooking Corner. Among the additions is a new team member and mascot, Kong.

Kong, a friendly ape wearing casual Hawaiian attire was inspired from Macey’s famous Kong Kone -- a chocolate and vanilla soft-serve ice cream cone that towers in height and reaches a pound in weight.

“For years, Macey's has offered a truly unique item in our stores, the Kong ice cream cone,” said Sokol. “It has become a tradition for many Utah families. With this in mind, we have introduced Kong, making him bigger and better than ever. We even added a life-size Kong mascot to the new Macey's.”

In 1947, Walt Macey and Dale A. Jones started the "Save-A-Nickel-Market" in Rosepark, Utah. Macey's grew from a small store into a multi-store chain by providing personalized service and genuine old-fashioned friendliness. Known for its innovation, Macey's supermarkets offer a made-from-scratch in-store bakery, delicatessen, full-service grocery, as well as meat, produce and non-foods departments.

Macey's operates 10 stores in the communities of Providence, Ogden, Clearfield, West Jordan, Sandy, Orem, Provo, Spanish Fork, Tooele and Pleasant Grove.
