Metcalfe’s Donation Drive Contributes 55,000 Meals

Madison, Wis.-based Metcalfe’s annual Stuff a Semi event contributed 32,433 meals (5,317 pounds of food plus $9,334 in monetary donations), which accounted for more than half of the 55,242 meals donated during a two-month donation push. All of the meals were donated to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin. This year’s Stuff a Semi event donated 8,868 more meals than the 2013 event.

In addition to the Stuff a Semi donations, the company’s two Madison stores (a third is located in Wauwatosa, Wis.) also donated 11,673 through the Check Out Hunger campaign and sold the equivalent of 9,557 meals in the Meal Bags for a Family of Four drive. Customers also donated enough reusable bag refunds to contribute 1,580 meals, an increase from the 296 meals donated last year through the same campaign.

Metcalfe’s promoted the event through its social media accounts – Facebook and Twitter – as well as in its e-newsletter. The company also ran print and online ads.
