NFRA Names March Frozen Food Month Golden Penguin Winners

The National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) has revealed the winners of the Golden Penguin Awards for the organization’s 2017 March Frozen Food Month promotion. NFRA has awarded 31 Gold Awards and 40 Silver Awards. Further, five companies will be unveiled as Top Marketers at the NFRA Convention in Orlando, Fla., this October.

The Gold Award winners will be honored at the convention's Networking Reception on Monday, Oct. 9, during which the Top Marketer awards will be presented. Silver awards are usually given out at the local level at frozen food association meetings.

To raise the level of prestige and recognition for its flagship award program, NFRA made significant changes to the Golden Penguin Awards program last year. These changes included new categories better reflecting current marketing practices, a simpler online entry system, a numeric scoring platform and a redesigned award.

Among the 11 new categories were In-Store Display, In-Store Event, Community Involvement, Social Media Campaign, Traditional Marketing, Private Brand Campaign and Overall Marketing Campaign with subcategories for Retailer, Wholesaler, Manufacturer, Sales Agent and Local Association. Additionally, the Top Marketer Awards recognize the highest-scoring entry in each of the Overall Marketing Campaign subcategories.

Retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, sales agents and local associations of any size (retail and military) were able to enter any category relevant to their business. Entries were judged on their own merit, taking into account organization size and/or program budget. These changes also applied to NFRA’s June Dairy Month and Ice Cream & Novelties promotions.

The full list of winners is available online.

Harrisburg, Pa.-based NFRA, a nonprofit trade association representing all segments of the frozen and refrigerated food industry, is the sponsor of March National Frozen Food Month, June Dairy Month, June/July Ice Cream & Novelties promotion, and October Cool Food for Kids educational outreach program.
