NGA Bolsters Gov't Relations Department

The National Grocers Association (NGA) has hired Maggie Lyons as its director of government relations.

Lyons will manage legislative and regulatory efforts related to federal policies that impact the independent supermarket channel. She will work alongside the NGA Government Relations team to develop and execute a government affairs strategy, as well as organize outreach for federal regulators and policymakers.

"Her experience working in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives will be a great addition to our government relations program,” said Peter J. Larkin, president and CEO, NGA. “NGA's member companies count on us to be their voice in Washington, DC and that is a commitment that we take very seriously. Maggie's addition to our team ensures NGA remains a strong advocate for our members and the independent grocery channel."

Greg Ferrara, VP, public affairs, added: "Our members and the industry continue to face an ever increasing litany of regulatory and legislative burdens on their businesses. Maggie brings additional resources to our team as NGA steps up its advocating efforts on behalf of our members each and every day so that they can focus on what they do best; serving their customers and their local communities.”

Lyons comes to NGA from Capitol Hill, where she most recently served as deputy chief of staff for a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee. Prior to her time spent working in the U.S. House, she worked for a Washington-based think tank, and served on the staff of a U.S. Senator.

NGA is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry.
