Nojaim Bros. Introduces $2.65M Renovation

Nojaim Bros. Supermarket, located on Syracuse, N.Y.’s Near Westside, recently underwent a $2.65 million renovation that included new roofing, flooring, refrigeration equipment, heating/cooling systems, electrical systems, food preparation areas, a deli and open-view meat department.

The rejuvenation focused on expanding healthy and fresh offerings. The new produce section -- now double the size of the former section -- was moved to the front of the store, and the new deli offers hot meals and made-to-order sandwiches.

The remodeling project, which began last October, added 3,000 square feet. The changes were officially unveiled to the public on Oct. 8, although the store remained open during much of the construction. The store now encompasses 23,000 square feet. The funding came from a loan from LIIF (Low Income Investment Fund) and a grant from New York Healthy Food and Healthy Communities.

Nojaims Bros. has served the community for 95 years and is owned by Paul Nojaim, the third generation of the family to run the supermarket. Nojaim also offers online ordering and delivery by partnering with Rosie Applications, which allows consumers to order groceries and also monitors users' shopping habits to alert them when they're running low on commonly purchased items.

''We are proud of our history and commitment to this community and look forward to serving our existing customers and welcoming new ones who are discovering what a jewel this neighborhood is," noted Paul Nojaim.
