Obituary: Mike Turner, Associated Supermarket Group

Michael Anthony “Mike” Turner, VP of Port Washington, N.Y.-based Associated Supermarket Group (ASG), died Saturday, May 13, at the untimely age of 51. “He was a beloved member of our team, an industry icon who will be deeply missed by all of us,” the company said.

Turner, a retail veteran with more than 20 years of retail and wholesale grocery experience, as well as a broad knowledge of the grocery industry and New York area, particularly the independent sector, jointly led business development and sales for ASG with John Borzumato. Before joining the company in 2014, Turner was director of corporate sales at White Rose and worked at the Boerner Co. and Dorman Roth Cheese.

Comprising the largest group of independently operated supermarkets based in the New York metro area, ASG provides services to a network of about 250 independent grocers operating in the eastern United States, primarily under the Associated or Compare banner.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer, and children Michael and Alexandra. A funeral mass will take place May 18 at St. Clement Roman Catholic Church in Matawan, N.J.
