Tyler Myers Named IGA USA International Retailer of the Year

IGA honored four international retailers at its 90 Anniversary Diamond Celebration earlier this month in Las Vegas.

Tyler Myers, Juneau Foodland IGA, was named the USA International Retailer of the Year. Myers, the second-generation president/CEO of The Myers Group, owns and operates six IGA stores in the Pacific Northwest. He purchased the award-winning Juneau store in 2012 when it was being liquidated. He hired back all 90 employees, re-opened the store as Foodland IGA and began a remodel that added 13,600 square feet that included an ACE Hardware, a pharmacy and expanded grocery departments. Under his management, the Juneau Foodland IGA has seen a 45-percent sales increase and a 30-percent increase in customer count.

“We are very proud of all that we have accomplished with Juneau Foodland IGA, but it all started with the focus on the IGA philosophy and programs first,” Tyler Myers said. “You must have a profitable business to exist, but taking care of your community, your customers and your employees is how we should all hope to be remembered.”

Nick and Spero Chapley of Frewville Foodland IGA was named 2016 IGA Australia International Retailer of the Year; Shiquan Shen of Ximay Homay Business Co. was named 2016 IGA China International Retailer of the Year; and Martin Dorville, Super J IGA was honored as 2016 IGA Caribbean International Retailer of the Year.

“The commitment these IGA International Retailers of the Year have made to their customers, their community, their associates and the IGA Alliance is an inspiration to us all,” IGA CEO Mark Batenic said.
