Key Food Stores Acquires 19 A&P Locations

Staten Island-based Key Food Stores Cooperative Inc. will acquire 19 of the 120 locations A&P is divesting through its bankruptcy. The stores currently operate under the A&P, Food Basics, Food Emporium, Pathmark and Waldbaum’s banners.

The $28 million deal is not final until approved by the bankruptcy court. A&P also is slated to sell 25 stores to Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. and 76 stores to ACME Markets.

Key Food Stores Co-op encompasses 186 independently-owned supermarkets throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
