Ahold USA Appoints EVPs

Ahold USA has named Bhavdeep Singh EVP of human resources. Singh succeeds John Bussenger, who has been appointed to the newly created role of EVP and assistant to Ahold USA Retail CEO and COO Carl Schlicker.

Singh brings more than 30 years of grocery retail experience to his position, in which capacity he will oversee the company’s human resources and labor relations functions, as well as fostering associate engagement. His most recent role was that of CEO for Fortis Healthcare in New Delhi, India. Before coming to Fortis, he was CEO for Reliance Fresh, India’s largest chain of convenience-style grocery retailers.

Earlier, prior to his relocation to India, Singh spent several years in various leadership roles with the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P), including president of the company’s Superfresh division and president of The Food Emporium and Super Foodmart.

Bussenger will continue to support Ahold USA’s overall business strategy, acting as a liaison among company leadership, the executive committee and key stakeholders in driving strategic initiatives. During his more than three decades with Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Food Stores, a division of Ahold USA, and the now-defunct Ahold-owned Edwards chain, he has held a variety of leadership positions. Prior to joining Ahold USA, Bussenger was EVP of human resources for Giant Food Stores.
