Crane Joins Supervalu as Logistics VP

Barry Crane has been appointed vice president of corporate logistics at Supervalu Inc., where he will be responsible for the centrally-led functions of transportation, distribution operations, risk management, operational analysis, industrial engineering and advantage logistics.

Crane will report to Janel Haugarth, executive VP and president of independent business and supply chain. “This role is vital in driving Supervalu’s efforts to develop and manage a best-in-class distribution and transportation network that meets the needs of Supervalu customers,” Haugarth said. “Barry has extensive logistics experience that we are confident will help drive our focus on continuous improvements to quality, productivity, cost reduction and overall performance.”

Crane joins Supervalu after serving most recently as VP for global distribution and logistics at The Talbots. Previously, he held positions with Trans World Entertainment, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Federal Express.

Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu Inc. operates 3,420 stores, composed of 1,900 independent stores serviced primarily by the company’s food distribution business; 1,331 Save-A-Lot stores, of which 950 are operated by licensee owners; and 191 traditional retail grocery stores.
