Instacart Expands to Los Angeles

On the heels of its expansion to New York City last week, Instacart has launched its same-day grocery delivery service to Los Angeles. 

The company has begun delivering groceries from Whole Foods Market, and plans to add additional stores in the coming weeks.

Instacart's initial coverage in Los Angeles County includes the neighborhoods of West Hollywood, Hollywood, Fairfax, Beverly Grove, Sawtelle, West LA, Mid-Wilshire, Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey. 

"We expect that the traffic and long commutes in LA will drive demand similar to what cold weather does for the east coast,” said Apoorva Mehta, founder of Instacart. “Instacart will allow LA residents to avoid making those detours to the grocery store while continuing to get the healthy foods they love."

Utilizing a crowd-sourced labor force that shops for and delivers grocery orders in as little as one hour, Instacart offers its customers a two-hour delivery window for a charge of $3.99, or a one-hour window for $14.99. In Los Angeles, customers will receive free delivery on their first order of $35 or more.

Originally launched in San Francisco and since expanded to Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and now Los Angeles, the company said it plans to offer services in three additional cities by year’s end.
