Retail, CPG Well-represented on Fortune’s Exec Dream Team

Executives from leading retailers Sam’s Club and Walmart, beverage giants Anheuser-Busch InBev and Coca-Cola, as well as Unilever all have earned spots at the table in Fortune magazine’s third annual Executive Dream Team.

Carlos Brito, CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest beer company, along with eight other high-level executives who display superior leadership and a management style that supports the “success of the whole enterprise, not just part of it,” were named to the honorary roster.

In an article penned last month by Fortune’s Daniel Roberts, Brito is described as a “truly global leader” whose hands-on approach, attention to detail and transparency have reinforced his ability to bring a “unified culture” to the company’s 150,000 employees worldwide, and have led to Brito’s “track record of smoothly integrating some 200 beer brands from around the globe into the AB InBev portfolio.”

Under Brito’s leadership, the company has seen substantial profitability, including a stock increase of more than 150 percent in four years, $40 billion in revenue last year alone, and approximately $160 billion in market value.

The other executives added to this year’s roster include Rosalind Brewer, chief executive officer, Sam’s Club, in the Dream Team’s “COO” position, for her strong leadership skills that led to the Bentonville, Ark.-based company's $56.4 billion in revenue last year; and Keith Weed, chief marketing officer, Unilever, in the “CMO” position, who manages the marketing efforts of the CPG giant’s 400-plus product portfolio.

Karenann Terrell, chief information officer, Wal-Mart Stores, was appointed to the Team’s “CIO” position, for her management of the mega-retailer’s information technology department, as well as her efforts to help Walmart compete with online retailers such as Amazon.

David Butler, vice president, innovation, Coca-Cola, takes on Fortune’s “Designer” position, in honor of his leadership in the design of the brand’s “Freestyle” machine, as well as delivering a new approach to Coca-Cola’s packaging concept.

Rounding out the lineup is Sam Palmisano, ex-chairman and CEO, IBM, in the position of “Nonexecutive Chairman”; Byron Pollitt, chief financial officer, Visa, in the Team’s “CFO” position; Pony Ma, founder, Tencent, in the position of “Entrepreneur in Residence”; and Lloyd Dean, chief executive officer, Dignity Health, as the Team’s “Utility player.”
