Walmart to Carry Wine in Tenn.

With just weeks to go until Tennessee grocery stores will be legally permitted to sell wine, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has obtained 120 retail food store wine licenses from the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Commission, enabling it to sell the beverage at 104 Walmart locations and 16 Sam’s Clubs in Tennessee, effective July 1.

The mega-retailer has already begun stocking store shelves with a full wine selection, a complete list of which is available online. Walmart is also encouraging customers to share any recommendations for wines they would like stores to carry.

“Our customers tell us they are very excited for the one-stop convenience of purchasing wine at Walmart when they shop for groceries,” noted company spokeswoman Anne Hatfield. “Walmart looks forward to helping our customers save time by not having to make a second stop somewhere else to purchase wine.”

Also coming soon to Tennessee Walmarts: the company’s free grocery pickup service, which lets customers order groceries online and pick them up at a local Walmart store without even getting out of their cars.

Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart operates 11,535 stores under 72 banners in 28 countries, and e-commerce websites in 11 countries.
