Walmart Chief Marketing Officer Stephen Quinn to Retire

Wal-Mart Stores' Stephen Quinn, the mega-retailer's EVP and chief marketing officer, will retire at the end of January, according to published reports.

While a replacement is sought, Walmart plans to hire Michael Francis, onetime CMO at Minneapolis-based Target Corp., as a consultant, effective Jan. 1, 2016.

In addition to 26 years with Target, Francis has also worked at J.C. Penney Co. and DreamWorks. He’s widely credited with creating Target’s “shabby chic” image.

Francis is expected to overhaul Walmart’s marketing department and to work closely with Quinn's as-yet-unnamed successor.

Quinn, who has been with Walmart since 2005, spearheaded the company's 2008 rebranding effort and came up with its “Save Money. Live Better” tagline.
