3 N.Y. ShopRite Stores Debut

ShopRite is opening three New York stores on Jan. 5: locations in the upstate communities of White Plains and Scarsdale, and a 72,000-square-foot site in Commack on Long Island.

Now the largest ShopRite in Westchester County, the 59,000-square-foot White Plains store, located at The City Center at the site of a former Filene’s Basement, will offer a unique full-service catering department. Headed by Culinary Institute of America (CIA)-trained chefs, the department will be able to provide anything from a cozy dinner for two to food for a full-scale gala event.

Other features include a wide selection of groceries and fresh produce; a fresh bake shop; a full-service floral department; an international aisle; natural and organic items; and many types of prepared foods, including a greens and salad bar, freshly prepared hot foods and Asian specialties to eat in the store’s eat-in lounge or at home, a fresh-made sushi bar, and a grill for made-to-order sandwiches, burgers and grilled chicken. The lounge offers flat screens and Wi-Fi.

The ShopRite of White Plains will additionally offer “ShopRite From Home” delivery service, which enables customers to order groceries from their home computers or mobile devices for convenient home delivery. Further, an on-site registered dietitian will be available daily for free customer consultations. As well as advising shoppers, the dietitian will arrange monthly screenings for specific health issues such as diabetes or high cholesterol.

Among the cutting-edge green technology incorporated into the store for maximum energy efficiency are glass doors on the dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting, environmentally friendly refrigerant systems, and a storewide energy reduction system. The equipment will slash energy usage will by as much as 60 percent for refrigeration of products and as much as 50 percent for store lighting, according to the storeowners. The White Plains store is also planning to employ a waste to water machine to convert organic waste that would otherwise go into a landfill into water. The machine has the potential to eliminate 240 tons of organic waste annually.

According to Dave Figurelli, president and COO of Edison, N.J.-based SRS Stores, which operates the White Plains location, along with 28 other northeast ShopRite stores: “This store is unique in that we can offer the highest levels of customer service with features such as our custom catering, home delivery and an in-store dietitian. These are things that customers might not expect from ShopRite, and we know that they will be pleasantly surprised to learn about all we have to offer.”

Replacing a Linens ‘N Things, the 57,000-square-foot Scarsdale store is within the historic Midway Shopping Plaza, one of first shopping malls in the country, brings more than 400 new jobs to the area. It boasts many of the same amenities as the White Plains location, including state-of-the-art green technology, the “ShopRite From Home” service and an in-store dietitian.

The White Plains and Scarsdale stores are both open daily from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Located at 1 Garet Place in the Cosentino Commerce Center, at the site of a former Home Depot Expo, the ShopRite of Commack is operated by the Greenfield family, owners and operators of the ShopRites of Plainview and Morton Village in Nassau County. The Commack store will be their first ShopRite in Suffolk County and will bring more than 300 jobs to the community.

Features of the Commack store include fresh seafood delivered daily, a floral department, a brick oven pizza, a Mediterranean olive bar, cheeses from around the world, an authentic Chinese buffet as well as many other freshly prepared hot foods and gourmet delicacies, an in-store pharmacy, and the “ShopRite From Home” service, which in this case enables customers to place orders from their home computers or mobile devices and pick up the items at the store without even leaving their cars.

Among the energy-saving and sustainable technologies in refrigeration and lighting at the store are glass doors on the dairy and freezer cases, LED and T-8 lighting, and eco-friendly refrigerant systems.

“As lifelong residents of Long Island, my family and I are better able to serve the unique needs of the neighborhood and look forward to having a positive impact on the community,” noted owner and operator Jon Greenfield.

The store’s hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
