Acer to Serve as ShopRite LPGA Classic Presenting Sponsor

When “A Shore Tradition” returns this spring to the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club in Galloway, N.J., it will officially be known as the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer: The globally recognized leader of the mobile computing industry and women’s golf supporter has agreed to be the presenting sponsor of the 2013 tournament, which is slated to take place Monday, May 27 through Sunday, June 2.

New Taipei, Taiwan-based Acer has been a partner of the tournament in the past, as well as a sponsor of the Rolex Rankings No.- ranked professional female golfer Yani Tseng, an Acer global ambassador and TV pitchwoman.

“By having signed on as the official computer and presenting sponsor of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, the affiliation brings greater visibility to both our brands and to the many talented women who explore beyond limits in this sport,” noted said Kim Phipps, Acer’s director, global marketing and brand.

The best players from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA)  will compete for a $1.5 million purse during the 54-hole, LPGA-sanctioned ShopRite LPGA Classic. A week of pre-tournament events precede three days of championship play, which will air on the Golf Channel.

“Since the Classic’s return to the Jersey Shore just three years ago, we have not only continued to see an increase in fan and community support, but with our corporate partnerships as well,” observed tournament director Leela Narang. “When we see a successful global brand like Acer coming on board as the presenting sponsor of our event, it’s proof positive that the strength and appeal of our tournament, and women’s golf, is smart business.”

“Through this tournament, we have been able to support local initiatives such as the innovative programs at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure in North Jersey, diabetes management programs at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, CARES Institute’s Treatment Center for Child Abuse and Neglect, the Pediatric Ophthalmology Section at Yale University, the Embrace Kids Foundation in support of pediatric cancer patients and their families, and food banks throughout our area,” said Joseph Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Keasbey, N.J.-based retail cooperative Wakefern Food Corp., the marketing and distribution arm for ShopRite.

With nearly 250 supermarkets throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland, ShopRite serves more than 5 million customers each week.
