Bashas’ Opens Newest Prototype Store in Tempe

Bashas’ is looking to create a one-of-a-kind experience with a state-of-the-art grocery store that has re-opened in Tempe, Ariz. following an extensive five-month remodel.

“During the last 80 years we’ve opened a lot of stores,” said Johnny Basha, VP of special projects for Chandler, Ariz.-based Bashas’. “We’ve closed a few, too. But it’s rare for us to close a store and rebuild a completely new store in the same spot. When this new, modern grocery store opens, it will be unlike any other in the state.”

Among the store’s features are covered parking; a café with flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; a gourmet deli with New York style pizzas, specialty sandwiches and made-to-order salads; an expanded bakery with Peet’s Coffee, iced tea and espresso drinks; organic and bulk foods; and local, farm-fresh produce.

To revitalize the area and contribute to the neighborhood’s stability, the 26-year-old store was completely remodeled this summer, presenting the grocer’s newest prototype design – a contemporary neighborhood store with a fresh appearance.

The 45,115-square-foot store employs 103 people, including cashiers, courtesy clerks, managers and other members.
